Overview

I welcome individuals of all ages, genders, race/ethnicities, cultures, religions, sexual orientations, abilities, countries of origin, family and relationship structures, and backgrounds in my practice. Clients may request a brief telephone consultation to assess needs and fit. The most important aspect of therapy is the relationship. Therefore, my top priority is for you to work with a clinician who is the best fit for your personality and needs. If it's determined that we're a good fit, we will schedule an in-depth clinical assessment reviewing your history, strengths, and goals. If not, I will provide referrals for alternate therapeutic support which may better match your needs.

What I Provide

I offer in-person and virtual appointments to people ages 7 and up who are physically located in the state of Michigan at the time of the visit.

I utilize evidence-based treatment orientations. There is a multitude of research that shows the strategies we will use together are proven to bring relief for each specific concern. I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Trauma and Grief Component Therapy (TGCT), supportive psychotherapy, Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT).

Each individual comes with different lived experiences, needs, wants, and priorities. Therefore, every course of therapy is different. We may use one or all of these strategies, in addition to the therapeutic alliance, depending on what you wish to work on. All sessions involve us collaboratively identifying short term goals, intentions, or tasks to focus on between our meetings in order for you to get the most out of your therapy journey.

I advise all patients to keep a dedicated therapy notebook in which to jot down thoughts in and out of session.

Psychedelic Integration Therapy

In addition, I am trained by COMPASS Pathways and also by Fluence to provide Psychedelic Integration Therapy using psilocybin (aka: "magic mushrooms") for interested candidates 25 years and older who pass a physical with their GP/PCP. This form of psychotherapy supports an individual before and after they embark on an intentional psychedelic experience from the comfort of their own home or other chosen safe space.

Notably, the journey/administration of the entheogen does not happen in the office or under the direct supervision of a medical provider/mental health therapist. Due to current laws in Michigan and most other states, it is not possible in this setting for a licensed medical professional to provide an entheogen/psychedelic or to sit with a person while they are in this specific state of altered consciousness (that is called Psychedelic Assisted Therapy, which I do provide on a clinical trial at the University of Michigan utilizing a psilocybin-like compound, but *not* in this private practice setting until laws change and FDA approval comes through)

If you have a documented Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) diagnosis with two or more documented treatments that did not have a desired outcome and are *curious* about recruitment, screening, and potentially joining our groundbreaking 60 country - 70 site study... here is the link for more information:

Separately... Psychedelic Integration Therapy (Again, different from the aforementioned Psychedelic Assisted Therapy on clinical trials) in private practices begins with multiple preparation sessions before your potential psychedelic experience (including education, exploring and managing expectations, identifying motivations/intentions, coping ahead, mindfulness techniques, grounding skills, identification of social support strategies, planning for ongoing processing after termination of therapy, etc) and integration sessions beginning the day after your journey (supporting you in making sense of your individual experience in the short term and in the long long term, making specific plans for your identified change items moving forward, reflecting on potential values/insights that were revealed, building your own personal narrative, sharing your experience in a distilled manner to people whom you identify as supportive, etc).

What Therapy Looks Like

  • Focus on proven, research-backed methods that alleviate anxiety and mood symptoms

  • Examine patterns of relating to others

  • Identify helpful coping or problem-solving skills

  • Shift away from avoidance/fear/confusion/etc. and toward openness, curiosity, and trust in the unknown

  • Make specific plans for change and staying accountable

  • Review patterns of negative, inaccurate, or unhelpful thinking/behaviors

  • Consider your personal values and how to live in line with them

  • Create a felt sense and place of safety where you can say and process anything without fear of judgment or commitment to thoughts/ideas... just exploration, and ultimately, accountability to what you decide is important to you and only you

Rates

With the exception of Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, my practice is as an out-of-network provider.

2024 session fees are as follows:

  • Initial visit (75 minutes): $200

  • Return visit (50 minutes): $170

  • Return visit (30 minutes): $120

For those without BCBS PPO, most plans will cover services through direct reimbursement to you. If you would like to use your insurance I will provide you with a specialized ledger to submit to your health insurance provider who may then reimburse you for an "out-of-network mental health/behavioral health office visit." Please call the customer service number on the back of your card to verify this before our first appointment.

I accept Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA), which allow users to pay for medical services pre-tax. Contact your employer for more information about this service.

In addition, I have limited need-based sliding scale appointments available for those who cannot afford services and for whom reasonable healthcare reimbursement is not an option. Mental and physical healthcare is a right, not a privilege. We will partner to find a solution that works for you.
